SINTEF Torgård
An engine and structural laboratory at Torgård in Trondheim, Norway, for SINTEF and NTNU, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
New engine and structural laboratory for SINTEF and NTNU at Torgård in Trondheim. The engine lab is used to test alternative fuels and emerging technologies, with personnel safety at the centre of the design. The volume is divided between lab cells, a social zone and a support system, with extensive integration between services and the building shell. Simple principles and the ability to expand have been central to the design. An existing workshop hall in the neighbouring building has been converted into a structural laboratory with associated workshops, where the strength of large elements can be tested.
