SINTEF Multiphase
A multiphase laboratory for the study of multiphase pipe transport.
SINTEF’s multiphase laboratory at Tiller in Trondheim was established in 1983 and 1984 and serves mainly the petroleum industry. It is built around a tall concrete tower that recreates, at full scale on land, the flow in long risers from the seabed to a platform. Testing takes place under realistic flow conditions, and the results are used to develop multiphase simulators. The office designed both the original laboratory and its conversion in 2009.
