SalMar Tjuin

17,000 m² smolt facility with full architectural delivery, including production, landscape, interior and facade design. Located in the Tjuin industrial area in Malm, the facility was developed from 2020 in close collaboration between architects, contractors, equipment suppliers and the client.
Production is organized over three floors in separate zones for breeding, smolt and post-smolt, RAS, hatchery, sorting and vaccination, with column placement and circulation adapted to the process areas from the start. The administration wing is located in the southwest corner with direct access to the main entrance and a view of Beitstadsundet.
Thommesen Arkitekter had full design responsibility, including landscape architecture, interior design, furniture planning and color concept. The blue Alucobond façade reflects the building’s function and changing daylight, while granite at the entrance refers to the surrounding landscape. Teal and neutral tones recur from exterior to interior. “It’s almost too nice to be a hatchery.” Client
